Without prejudice to the basic operating principles of the "OFFICINE CUSTOS 2050" electric lock, the new device expands its application and makes it more suitable for tightening fixtures, including large ones, which must resist particularly violent actions, which may occur (in case of riot) against internal barriers (corridors) or driveways (with heavy vehicles). Another evolution of the basic system is applied in the tightening of the new types of sliding safety frames. The implementation of the basic system, which is limited to the movement of a single bolt, essentially consists of activating a self-locking latch bolt and multiple locking points, bolts or hooks. As with the basic lock, the new and more complex system can also be operated manually with the aid of the supplied key.

BOXES AND GATES

DOOR
The Valide security door, equipped with "OFFICINE CUSTOS 2020" penitentiary-type lock, is a versatile product and is generally installed in the rooms intended for various functions other than detention itself; because of the particular use, it can be completely blind, with a door that opens, or with laminated glass mirrors.
To protect the installations, especially if they are provided with vertical shafts and to allow continuity of service and access to tunnels from the basement, it involves the installation of security doors with hinges and "OFFICINE CUSTOS 2020" penitentiary-type locks. The doors can be "smoke-tight", with one frame for the whole perimeter and with the insertion of specific to the “thermo-extension” type in the closing bars.

Frames and Grates
Generally speaking, in residential places, particular attention is paid to the implementation of highly resistant security doors, certified as class RC 4 or 5, demonstrating the level of house protection, but one tends to disregard the resistance and protection of exterior windows. Evidently, it is hardly appropriate to offer protection in one point of the system while allowing weak points in other parts of the system: therefore, MARSILII intended to create a frame window with similar levels of resistance as in the case of doors, while ensuring high standards of style and quality. More precisely, the intrinsic resistance of the window frame prevents the widespread and anaesthetic tendency to install window grates to compensate for the lack of sufficient protection offered by the windows. The passive defence provided by the frame, important in itself, is completed with the installation of sensors, which detect in real time the condition of open / closed state of each fixture, displayed on a synoptic panel positioned in the vicinity of the access door, allowing immediate control; a data transmission system contained in a more general system of home automation, might also communicate the state of the fixtures at a distance. The new proposal addresses the safety of doors and windows used in civil and residential buildings: more specifically, it refers to an armoured window or door with thermal break, consisting of metal sections made from bent sheet of great thickness and characterized by high levels of anti-burglary safety, even bulletproof. It is well known that civil constructions use doors and windows with thermal break, generally made up of commercial light metal alloys (aluminium) assembled by means of screws and bolts. It is evident that this usual building solution, producing articles made from parts, which are potentially removable, is inappropriate when it comes to ensuring high levels of security, which are ever more often required even in civil and residential building, for defence against criminal actions from outside. The invaluable experience gained by OFFICINE MARSILII in manufacturing security doors and windows in military and prison buildings was transferred, with appropriate modifications, to civil and residential building, in order to manufacture an extremely well qualified product from an aesthetic-formal perspective, superior and suitable to cover the whole range of needs: from standard windows to large surface windows, without losing any of the functional and aesthetic features that characterize it. The aim was to achieve a high security window with thermal break without any parts that may be removed without appropriate equipment, which could, as indeed it has, succeed in combining the best comfort with the highest levels of defence against crime. The particular structure of the glass and of its inclusion in the profile allows a considerable reduction of the level of noise from the external environment, such as traffic, assemblies, etc.
OFFICINE MARSILII has always believed that soundness and safety constitute the essential requirements in the construction of doors or windows in relation to their specific destination within the detention facilities. To this end, and unlike other manufacturers, they have avoided to adopt the simplistic tubular frames available on the market, which involve lower costs, but also provide insufficient strength with its 1.5 mm thickness normally used. The profile used by the company is entirely and specifically made in its workshop and manufactured from corrugated sheet at least 30/10 thick, ensuring robustness, reliability and security. Together with the aesthetic aspects, the Company’s objective has been also to ensure significant levels of medium comfort, which have been officially certified by an Authorized Official Laboratory. Another important development is represented by the establishment of a product which combines reliability and security with the essential present-day requirements of reducing the energy consumption through the adoption of specific technologies and geometry embodied in the door or window certified for "thermal break". Thus, this frame is CE marked and it is the only one that answers these requirements which is made of steel profiles.

The resistance of the hardened chromium steel (100Cr6) grates has not been surpassed; however it has been suggested that hardened carbon C45/50 should be used as it has a very good resistance to cut and the advantage of an optimal cost / benefit ratio. The research has however also developed in other directions, such as that of ensuring a suitable resistance to oxidation, especially in marine environments, with the adoption of coatings of stainless steel or the integration of the mechanical strength with an electronic detection system with sensors, in order to detect any attempts to cut it.
The doors are a necessary complement of the frame to ensure the dimming of a local cell, while providing the strength and security necessary against tampering. To this end, the door hinges are anti-unthread and the edges are rounded.

The profile used by the company is entirely and specifically made in its workshop and manufactured from corrugated sheet at least 30/10 thick, ensuring robustness, reliability and security. Together with the aesthetic aspects, the Company’s objective has been also to ensure significant levels of medium comfort, which have been officially certified by an Authorized Official Laboratory. Another important development is represented by the establishment of a product which combines reliability and security with the essential present-day requirements of reducing the energy consumption through the adoption of specific technologies and geometry embodied in the door or window certified for "thermal break". Thus, this frame is CE marked and it is the only one that answers these requirements which is made of steel profiles.
To avoid waste and throwing objects through windows of the cells in the areas below the custodial environment, outside the grates are applied networks derived from expanded metal and esplanade. The nets are supplied in galvanized panels fitted with tubular frame. The installation of the panels on the frame of the grate is performed by means of bolts made inaccessible.
The jalousie is the appropriate tool to prevent visual insights while allowing the passage of the necessary light and the adequate air circulation. For this purpose it uses suitably framed strips of opacified laminated glass.

The protection structures, both internal and external, can be made from simple glass as well as from complex and articulated products, appropriate to achieve real secure environments allowing supervisory activities, such as: agents boxes equipped with "OFFICINE CUSTOS 2020" penitentiary-type locks that control access points to interior spaces and exterior sections of imprisonment or other functional areas. The box is therefore structured and designed in accordance with the specific demands and needs, even environmentally. In relation to the level of security that must be achieved, the structure can be made up of different types of metal panels and laminated glass. In relation to the specific function and location of the windows, these can be equipped with special glass – the so-called "mirror" or "sight glasses”.
The security structures on the wall must operate under safety conditions to allow effective control of the external and internal surface. The defence is provided by bullet-proof structures such as watchtowers and armoured glass, which extend laterally over a suitable length. To this end, the intermediate portion of the outer walls of the sentry and of the glass cabin is inclined at 45 ° outwardly, to allow an easy view of the exterior. The inclination facilitates the use of weapons by the personnel inside, in case of need, both straight forward or downwards. The armed defence therefore occurs under conditions of maximum security and it is secured by the adoption of materials, metal and glass walls that can withstand the impact of bullets fired from an automatic Kalashnikov rifle. The watch towers are usually located on the top of the surrounding wall, but in the case of significant development of one side or of particular needs of control and supervision, also along the straight section of the walkway. In relation to the specific environment in which the sentry is placed, one may adopt the best solution with regard to the external surface treatment, stainless steel, galvanized or painted metal sheet. Of a similar structure are also the sentry boxes on the ground, usually installed for the control of access gates to penitentiaries, judicial or military facilities.

The furniture of the meeting room attended by detainees and their visitors was conceived in its specific colloquial function, in which we have also paid attention to environmental and aesthetic aspects: therefore, we have used valuable materials, such as marble for the table and wood for the seats, without disregarding the aspects of solidity and security.

Prison security shutter
In relation to the new laws regarding the custody of the arrested, provided by the Law no.9 of 17 February 2012, OFFICINE MARSILII has developed a proposal-project for "the security room" to be built in buildings of various police forces.
Given the fact that those arrested may remain inside the security rooms for up to 48 hours, in order to meet the requirements of hygiene and health and in particular to avoid constant accompaniment, day and night, in the shared toilet, as it still happens, the room is integrated with an independent toilet compartment in which they can find basic health fittings (water and sink), even though they could also be fitted with a shower.
The need for the control of the arrested, both in the cell and inside the bathroom, is assured with the installation of special viewports. The room must not have any sharp edges, handles or removable components that may be used in offense or self-harm; the cell is shaped in such a way that the furniture components meet the above construction requirements. The fixtures and furniture components listed are described in detail in the individual sheets included in the specific sections on the site and are also listed below, as shown in the chart:
- access area to the cell: the window frame can be constituted by a Valide 85 security door equipped with inspection hatch and a service hatch or by a Firmior 85 door that, in addition to the inspection hatch and the service hatch is also equipped with a large 50x160 service door with safety bars inside to allow more suitable aeration; both types are equipped with a "OFFICINE CUSTOS 2020" penitentiary-type lock:
access area to the toilet: the toilet can be separated either by the floor-to-ceiling door specific to toilets or by the saloon-type door; - window area: the area is protected by a grate-monobloc consisting of jamb frame, iron bars and a steel frame. Depending on the level of security aimed to achieve, the grate can be made of normal steel or of hardened carbon steel, in order to resist any attempts to cut with special saws; likewise, the window will have be of a security penitentiary type and will comply with the legal provisions on reducing energy consumption, will be made with certified thermal break specifications. The window may be of the sash or flap opening type or of the fixed type and can be equipped with Securit safety glass or laminated glass, shatterproof or bulletproof;
- the walls of the cell and of the bathroom, the walls separating the corridor are provided with metal inspection viewports, which can be with fixed glass or with glass that can be opened. such as the shutter;

Judicial psychiatric hospital and assignment to a nursing home and custody. With the art. 3-ter of the Law 17 February 2012, n. 9 Provisions were issued for the definitive overcoming of judicial psychiatric hospitals, while the Minister of Health's decree of 1 October 2012 defined the structural, technological and organizational requirements of residential structures intended to accommodate people to whom security measures are applied admission to a judicial psychiatric hospital and assignment to a nursing home and custody. OFFICINE MARSILII has been able to correspond over time to all the needs of the penitentiary world, from imprisonment institutions to attenuated wards, and also within the Psychiatric Departments envisaged and activated in the Penitentiary Institutes has developed significant experiences in the design and construction of artifacts, combining penitentiary security with health security, paying attention to all the psychopathological aspects of the internees, in compliance with the requirements laid down by the ministerial decree.
